Privacy Policy — HomeChores
HomeChores (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a household organization app that lets you create and manage homes, tasks, shopping lists, calendar items, and a built-in assistant called Chorie. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who This App Is For
HomeChores is made for households, and families use it together — including parents and their children helping with chores and the day-to-day of the home. It is meant to be set up and managed by an adult (a parent or guardian), who oversees any child’s participation. See “Children & Families” below.
Information We Collect
- Account information: When you create an account or sign in, we collect your email address, name, and login credentials.
- Social sign-in information: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the email and basic profile details those services share, depending on your settings.
- Content you create: Homes and members, tasks and task definitions, shopping list items, calendar items, comments and notes, settings, and any images you upload (for a home, task, list item, or profile). Notes and comments are free-text fields, so please avoid adding sensitive information your household doesn’t need.
- Voice input (Chorie): When you talk to Chorie instead of typing, the app captures a short audio clip and sends it to be transcribed into text. We use the audio only to create the transcript and then delete it — we do not keep voice recordings. We keep only the text of your message, which is treated like any other message you send.
- Chorie conversations: Your messages to Chorie and its responses, so the assistant works and your history is available to you.
- Photos and camera: With your permission, to scan a QR code to join a home and to add images. Images you upload are stored with your household content.
- Technical and diagnostic information: app version, the platform you use, and a device identifier used for notifications. When something goes wrong, our error-monitoring provider may collect diagnostic details (such as device and error information). Our servers also receive your IP address and request timestamps for security and reliability.
- Local device storage (limited): A sign-in token to keep you signed in, and your language preference.
We do not collect your location, and we do not use advertising or third-party tracking SDKs.
How Chorie’s AI Works
Chorie is the HomeChores assistant. To answer you and carry out actions you ask for — like creating a task, shopping item, or calendar event — Chorie processes your message and the household content needed for that action. We use OpenAI as our service provider to transcribe your voice messages and generate Chorie’s responses. OpenAI processes this content on our behalf and does not use it to train its models, and we do not use your content to train models either. Chorie may not be available to every user.
How We Use Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and operate HomeChores (including syncing your data across your household).
- Power Chorie — generate responses, transcribe voice input, and carry out the actions you ask for.
- Authenticate users and secure accounts.
- Enable collaboration features (such as sharing a home with other members).
- Provide support and respond to requests.
- Improve performance, reliability, and features.
- Protect against fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
How We Share Information
- With service providers that help us operate the app — including hosting and database infrastructure; OpenAI (which powers Chorie’s voice transcription and responses); Sentry (error monitoring); and Expo (which delivers app updates and push notifications; push routes through Apple and Google). They may use your information only to provide services on our behalf and under appropriate safeguards.
- With Apple and Google if you choose those sign-in methods, or to deliver notifications (their processing is governed by their own policies).
- For legal reasons if required to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect users and the service.
Sharing With Other Members
If you join a home with other members, the content you add within that home — tasks, shopping items, calendar events, comments, images, and your name and avatar — is visible to other members of that home.
Children & Families
HomeChores is designed for households, and we expect parents and children to use it together. We built it to be safe for that: no ads, no third-party tracking, and we never sell anyone’s data.
- HomeChores is meant to be set up and managed by an adult (a parent or guardian), who creates the household and oversees who takes part. We do not ask for a user’s age and we do not direct HomeChores to children for independent use, so we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child without a parent or guardian’s involvement.
- When a child takes part, the parent or guardian provides and controls the information in the household and can review, correct, or delete it — and remove the child from the home — at any time.
- We collect only what is needed for chores and household organization, and we never use children’s information for advertising or sell it.
- If you are a parent or guardian and want to review, correct, or delete a child’s information, contact us at home.chores.dev@gmail.com.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and secure token storage on your device. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data from unauthorized access.
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Voice recordings are not retained after transcription. You can delete your account at any time (see “Your Choices and Rights”), and we may keep limited records (such as security logs) where necessary for security, legal, or operational reasons.
Your Choices and Rights
In the app, you can update your profile, manage your home and members, and delete your account (Settings → Delete Account), which removes your account and associated data.
Depending on where you live — for example, Brazil (LGPD), the EU/UK (GDPR), or California (CCPA) — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
To make a request, contact us at home.chores.dev@gmail.com. We respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
International Data Transfers
We use service providers that may process your information in other countries, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date when changes are made, and we will notify you of material changes where appropriate.
